THQ: Saints Row 2 “Very Different” from GTA IV
THQ CEO Brian Farrell says that Saints Row 2 is different enough from other sandbox titles to stand out and be a success. The original Saints Row from 2006 sold over 2 million copies on Xbox 360 and was well-received by critics, but the general consensus was that it copied a lot from the reigning king of crime sandbox, Grand Theft Auto.
And with the Volition-developed Saints Row 2 launching in the same year as GTA IV, Farrell sought to convince investors that this sequel would offer something different from Rockstar’s hit megafranchise.

Citibank Hack Blamed for Alleged ATM Crime Spree
It’s one thing to have your debit card ripped off when you run it through a shady scanner at a dark gas station, but if the Feds are right about some recent NYC credit card fraud, it’s an order or magnitude worse: Federal prosecutors have charged two Brooklyn men with stealing almost a million bucks by compromising Citibank’s ATM security.
Although Citibank has denied that its systems were hacked to the press, bank representatives warned the FBI that “a Citibank server that processes ATM withdrawals at 7-Eleven convenience stores had been breached.”

CryTek Eases Up On The Hardware
Crytek, the creators of Crysis, are easing up on the hardware requirements for their next title, Crysis Warhead. CEO Cevat Yerli says the game will run smoothly on a 400 euro (roughly $620) PC. And that’s with high settings enabled, at 30 to 35 frames per second. That’s a huge change from the beefy PC required to play Crysis smoothly!

‘Rock Band’ 3rd Party Controllers Kick Ass
Finally, we’re getting some 3rd party instruments for our Rock Band. A while back, Mad Catz was given the official thumbs up from Harmonix to become a licensed manufacturer of 3rd party Rock Band accessories.
Up first is the Fender Bass controller with a recommended list price at $69.99. This beauty comes with a split strum bar so you can pluck as you would a real bass. The 360 version will be out June 22, PS3 on July 15, and Wii on August 1.

‘Warcraft’ To Feature Level 30 Mounts
In news that will rock the respective worlds of all low-level World of Warcraft players, Blizzard’s patch notes for the next Warcraft patch will bring level 30 mounts! No longer will you have to wait until your elf is level 40 to ride a fake horse! “Apprentice Riding and mounts are now available at level 30. Training costs 35 gold,” Blizzard posts.
No word on why the change was made, or whether the level 30 mounts will look/behave differently than level 40 mounts. Difficulty/frustration nerf, perhaps?

‘Clone Wars’ Gets Two New Games
The DS and the Wii are going to get new games inspired by the upcoming Clone Wars fictions. Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels will feature motion controlled combat. However, “It’s not a Lightsaber simulator, but when you swing your Wii remote left to right; your character does the same,” said producer Ken Fox.
So, you’ve given us half of the awesomest gift you could ever give us. Thanks?
The DS game entitled Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Jedi Alliance will utilize the stylus for unique attack combinations. There is also apparently a maneuver where two Jedi combine forces and fight as one, although we’re not sure what that means.
The movie is out August 15th, with the TV series up in the fall and the games’ release dates sometime around Christmas. No word on the KOTOR MMO and LucasArts reps have said there will be no announcements at E3.

Quarter Million ‘Spore’ Creatures Created
Over 250,000 creatures were created in 24 hours using the Spore Creature Creator released on Tuesday. That means, according to Electronic Arts’ math, two creatures are created for the Mac and PC Universe simulator every second. The total is nearing 400,000 now.
“The response to the Spore Creature Creator has been overwhelming,” said Lucy Bradshaw, executive producer of Spore at Maxis. “The creativity and passion that the community is putting into their creatures is spectacular. The development team has spent the last 24 hours checking out the amazing creations racing in from all corners of the globe – with peak volume hitting more than 1,000 creatures being shared a minute.”
Estimates that over 98% of the creatures created represent human genitalia have yet to be confirmed, as I made them up. At the risk of digression, when I think “User Created Content” I think “dongs,” know what I’m saying?
Anyway, bet your own free Creature Creator, and create your own space-weenus-creature, at Spore.com.

Flaming Ball Banned
Killjoys in the Australian government have banned the most exciting, dumbest toy we’ve ever heard of.
The Fire Footbag is a soccer ball hacky-sack made of flame-retardent material meant to be lit on fire and kicked around by lucky children. Apparently, some feel this might be somewhat dangerous.
“The Fire Footbag essentially becomes a flaming missile which presents extreme safety risks for people who could quite easily be burned by the footbag once it’s been set alight,” South Australian Consumer Affairs Minister Jennifer Rankine said. “The Fire Footbag clearly presents significant health and safety risks.”
We must urge you not to try and make your own at home. That would be stupid. Burning is bad times.
