‘Gears of War’ Movie Becomes Legendary

The Dark Knight, 300, Batman Begins - if those aren’t enough reasons to say that production company Legendary Pictures has quite an incredible rep, we don’t know what else to tell you.

Soon, the Gears of War movie will join the production company’s amazing film roster as they have agreed with New Line Cinema to co-produce and finance the video game movie adaptation. The movie will still be directed by Len Wiseman, who also directed both Underworld movies and Live Free or Die Hard, and the screenplay will be written by Chris Morgan who worked on the recent Angelina Jolie action flick, Wanted.

Legendary Pictures also produced the Watchmen movie coming out in 2009 and is producing the long-anticipated big screen invasion of the massive World of Warcraft film. Gears of War 2 developed by Epic Games will be coming out this November 7 exclusively for the Xbox 360.

‘Wheelman’ Delayed To Q1 2009

When Midway showed their Vin Diesel movie-tie-in game Wheelman at E3 last week for the PS3 and Xbox 360, some people of the press thought the game looked and felt a little unfinished. When the publisher told everyone that the game would released by the end of 2008, many were confused. It came as no surprise that Midway announced at Comic-Con this week that they have delayed Wheelman’s release to the first financial quarter of 2009. This will give the team some extra time to polish up the mechanics and AI of the game, hopefully giving us a better end result when it finally hits store shelves. The game will still release before the corresponding film, but we’re hoping both will be mildly enjoyable popcorn actioneers.

‘Mortal Kombat 9′ Will Be Mature

With the upcoming release of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe by Midway, co-creator of the MK series Ed Boon has been talking to a lot of people, and it comes as no surprise that his mouth is very busy at this year’s Comic-Con. Kotaku talked with Boon about the scrapped concept for Mortal Kombat 8 that was on the table before the DC integration, which was once described as being heavily influenced by the look of Gears of War. Although the darker MK game didn’t make it much past early development, Boon assured that the next installment in the series will strive for more blood, more violence, and a hard M-rating. That’s good news for all of us, considering we won’t get to rip Superman’s head and spine from his body this time around. Just save your sadistic fantasies for the next one guys.

‘Knight Rider’ Details Revealed

Knight Rider was one of the dopiest, craziest awesomest things ever put on TV, but can the new series live up to the campy example set by the original? Judging from the panel held at Comic-Con yesterday, they’re not even going to try. Instead, the new series seems like it will be more action-packed, harder-edged, and just less flat-out ridonkulous than the original.

Along with the re-tooled KITT (pictured above), Michael’s background (from the recent TV movie) as an Iraqi soldier is expanded, adding a lot of intrigue to that part of his life. Here’s what the show’s writer had to say: “There is something more to that [war]. What he was doing, what he remembers and what he doesn’t remember.” So look for serious intrigue, brothers and sisters.

Another change: KITT will have a whole team of people who make him work in a high-tech setting. There will be a romantic female lead as a main character, so less a “boy-and-his-car” story and more serious and realistic… good changes? Bad? We’ll see this fall. Read all about it at the link below!

‘Tron 2′ Footage Screened At Comic-Con

Among the surprises at this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego was Disney unveiling some brand new footage from Tron 2!

Jeff Bridges is back in the flick, and the trailer sounds like it’s a more-violent, visceral version of the the original flick. In it, a fast-paced light cycle duel is interrupted with a cut to the “real” world, where an older, tougher looking Flynn is basically playing a videogame. Back to the computer world: The race ends in a violent crash. The victorious driver lifts his visor to reveal that it’s Flynn, the hero of the original flick.

The defeated driver says: “But it’s only a game.”

Flynn: “Not any more.”

And title.  Intriguing! Disney promises we’ll be seeing more footage from the movie closer to its release next year.

Tera Patrick Joins ‘Saint’s Row 2′

Adult actress Tera Patrick (Island Fever, Foot Lovers Only 2) will be working as a “special producer” for upcoming THQ open-world action game Saint’s Row 2. What she’ll produce exactly remains mysterious, but we know what the nude-starlet produces in us: Smiles. More details will be revealed as to Patrick’s role in the game soon.

Tera will also be making a special appearance at THQ’s Comic Con booth this Saturday in San Diego, where she’ll meet with fans and sign exclusive Saints Row 2 art. So, if you’re at Comic-Con, you might want to get some sweet-signed-schwag–although don’t blame us if the line stretches around the block, Patrick has been known to draw some big, big crowds.

Saint’s Row 2 hits stores on October 16th for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Although it wasn’t officially announced by Capcom, Cammy showed up in the newest promo video for the game.

Street Fighter IV is scheduled to come out on PC, 360 and PS3 sometime in 2009.

New Doom Not Called ‘Doom IV’
Posted by Stephen Johnson - Friday, August 01, 2008 9:21 AM

A little bit of news out of yesterday’s QuakeCon: id Software designer Tim Willits confirmed that the next Doom game will not be titled Doom 4. Instead, we’re looking at Doom followed by a colon followed by a subtitle. This is because they’re pretending Doom 3 didn’t exist, basically, and following the Doom 2 storyline. Good move!

‘Doom’ Movie Sequel Wanted By id

So perhaps after you’ve come up with a name for the new Doom game, you may want to think about another one for a potential movie sequel.

“Personally I’d like to do another Doom movie, I thought working with it was a blast,” said by id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead. Doom the movie, distributed and released in 2005 by Universal, stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the main character Sarge. The movie grossed about $28 million domestically. The story of the movie revolved around a group of space marines investigating an “unknown” threat at a research facility on a distant planet.

“We’ll see what happens when we get further along in development of the (new Doom) game and there’s more buzz and we share more about what the game will be about,” said Hollenshead. Would you say, “id like another Doom movie?”

‘Godfather 2′ Earlier Than Expected

This week, during an address to EA stockholders, Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello said the Godfather 2 game could see release sooner than expected; maybe even in late 2008 or early 2009. The previous release date was sometime in 2009, as far as we knew.

We’ll let you know when this action game’s release date gets a little more firm. It’ll be out on the PS3, PC and 360.

Sony Speaks About PSP’s Status
Posted by John Manalang - Friday, August 01, 2008 11:56 AM

As far as exclusives and AAA quality titles go, Sony’s Playstation Portable had a good start this year, picking up the momentum with Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and God of War: Chains of Olympus. However, looking over the horizon and its current status, what else can we expect from Sony’s handheld?

In a MTVMultiplayer interview with Sony Marketing head John Koller, he talked about what support the system needed in order to guarantee its success for the future. “Where we are today is the result of a development cycle from 18 months ago,” said Koller, speaking about how PSP sales weren’t as good as today back then. In Japan, the PSP sold more than the mighty Nintendo consoles - both DS and Wii - which they could thank Capcom for their Monster Hunter PSP series.

“[We've told developers to think about] how they create the games,” he said, in hopes of getting more original content from third-party publishers instead of ports. Koller also mentioned about Sony’s first-party plans - a strategy where Sony seems to be focused going forward with their systems - with Resistance: Retribution. Check out the rest of the interview from the source link, and make sure you let us know what would you want to see happen on Sony’s portable device. Also, check out a video for Resistance: Retribution after the cut.

Blu-Ray Struggling Except On PS3

Blu-Ray discs sales are struggling, but the PlayStation 3 is like the white knight of the format: It’s the place where the format is blossoming, according to ABI Research.

The reason for slower-than-wanted sales of Blu-Ray is simple: Most people are okay with their old-school DVDs. A survey of 1,000 found that 50% of those asked have no plans to purchase a Blu-ray player, and 23 percent said they are likely to buy a player, but not until 2009.

“While you might think gamers purchase fewer movie discs than others, we didn’t see any significant evidence of that in our results,” said ABI principle analyst Steve Wilson. “PS3 console shipments will go a long way to help bring down manufacturing costs and drive down Blu-ray player prices.”
